Search for meaning

Can meaning reside
In the mundane everyday?
Wake up to the truth.

The worm is the meal
For the sparrow in the tree,
Prey of the eagle.

Why did the worm die?
When the sparrow died as well?
Nobody keeps watch.

The early bird did
As bid – caught the worm to eat,
So did the eagle.

The search for meaning
As old as the beginning –
Of life – or its void.

Tiptoe to peek, not!
Life’s lessons are but skin deep;
Do not lose yourself.

The half truths they give
As explanations, meaning –
Are a wisp of smoke.

You’re stood at the cusp,
Perhaps of discovery,
What if misery?

You’ll let the worm die
So too the sparrow, you know
Unfair is the norm.

Here’s the harsh truth
You cannot save them both and
Save everyone too.

Fragile the balance
It’s not yours to meddle with –
You will also die.

The worm died today
And so too did the sparrow.
Eagle meets sundown.

Tomorrow will come
Just as did today – eagle
may live to see it.

And if it does not
You’ll sigh in relief thinking
Justice has been served.

What of the belly
And the pangs within? Worm, bird,
Human – all is fair.
