Chasing Sunshine

The cat on the prowl
Led by its belly’s rumble,
Knows no barrier.

Words can sow love too,
Just as they can inflict hurt –
Which ones will you choose?

The sun does its thing,
Rising, shining, and setting,
And the world goes on.

The bright summer dawn,
Yields defeat to wintry ones
Nuked by a warm bed.

When a smile beguiles,
Does evil lurk behind it?
Read between the lips.

Gauge the optics,
Power play or politics –
Either is a fix.

Why sheer curtains?
To reveal in obscuring,
Those hiding in light.

The white of pure snow,
The dark brown of dirty sludge –
To think they’re twins.

The swimming pool’s full,
But the taps have all run dry –
When plenty’s no good.

Where did I leave it?
It’s not hiding in my pocket,
It’s peace, not car keys.
