Chasing Sunshine

You hoped for beauty,
Envisioned it even if
There was none – your bad.

Fairies and flowers,
And dainty dandelions,
Rained on by brimstones.

Crush them brutally,
Like ice in a granita –
You dared to have dreams!

Living like this is
Not quite what you had in mind –
For where is the fun?

The robber crouches
To lie in wait in the dark,
She doesn’t see the lens

The rose bush is free,
No buds nor blossoms and bees –
No more scrutiny.

Peel back the layers
Like dainty flower petals,
Not onions – bar tears.

The real person
Stays hidden beneath years of
Hard conditioning

Gratitude’s healing,
Or so they say – seeing is
A must have for faith.

There’s nothing calmer
Than the ocean’s gentle calm –
Whither lies the storm.
