Chasing Sunshine

The tea leaves constrained
Behind the strainer, bleed in –
Calling over pain.

Is this a deep thought?
Perhaps it is a feeling.
My mind is a moat.

I wish to walk far,
Deep down this long forest trail,
And fail to return.

Stolen moments give
A thrill of illicit joy,
Like a midnight treat.

Where did the shame hide?
Did it settle in deep down,
Where light dare not go?

Throw at me barbs, thorns,
Whatever you will, to hurt,
It’s what my soul thirsts.

Ready the popcorn,
Feet tucked warm ‘neath the blanket,
Eyes closed in horror.

The pink candy floss,
Dies an unnatural death,
Claimed by a puddle.

Sleeplessness abounds
In cities around the world,
While hamlets repose.
